What Is Waas?

The technology behind GPS systems can be complicated. However, a little research into what the various systems are and how they work can make choosing the right GPS system an easier decision. If you have looked into purchasing a GPS or owned a GPS system before then you probably have seen the term WAAS either on packaging or in ads for GPS systems.

WAAS stands for Wide Area Augmentation System. WAAS is an intricate GPS technology, which was developed to provide locations that are more accurate. This is done through GPS signal corrections attained through a network of ground stations and satellites. The stations and the satellites work together to create plots on maps so GPS systems can easily make this information available to the consumers that use these products.

WAAS is still being developed through the joint efforts of the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) and the DOT (Department of Transportation). The reason the DOT and the FAA are developing WAAS is actually to make flight locations more accurate. WAAS works together with GPS because GPS does not currently meet navigational requirements of the FAA on its own.

At this time, WAAS is five times more accurate than the average GPS system technology. In fact, a GPS receiver with WAAS capabilities can maintain an accuracy of three meters or less over 90% of the time. Of course, the best feature of WAAS is that it is built in to certain GPS systems. This means there are no additional fees and you do not have to order any additional receivers or other equipment for WAAS to work correctly. Additionally, depending on the type of GPS device you own, you may be able to upgrade your GPS system to start using WAAS capabilities if it does not do so already.

GPS alone faces problems such as ionospheric disturbances, precision timing, and orbit errors for the satellites used. However, when used together with WAAS, these three main problems, as well as smaller errors in the GPS system are corrected. WAAS is also capable of providing information on the GPS satellite itself so there is never a question of whether the satellite is working to its greatest potential or not.

There are around 25 different ground stations, which WAAS uses as reference in the United States alone. The GPS satellite data is communicated to these ground stations so the information can be monitored. Then the information is compiled and sent to two master stations (one on the east coast and one of the west coast), which correct any errors in the GPS satellite information.

Corrections are made based on the orbit of the satellite, clock drift, and delays in the signal caused by the ionosphere and atmosphere of the Earth. After the corrections are made, the master station transmits this information to a geostationary satellite (one of two), which are located in a stationary position over the equator. Since the information is GPS compatible (the signal structure is the same) a GPS receiver with WAAS is able to read the signal from the satellite.

At the present time, only people in North America can use WAAS technology. GPS can be used in South America. However, WAAS will not work to correct accuracy errors. This is because WAAS enabled GPS receivers cannot receive signals due to the fact that South America has no ground stations. WAAS technology is constantly being tweaked and improved though, so in time it could become available across the world.

For now, it is best to use WAAS enabled GPS systems in open land or at sea. Since the stationary satellites are at the equator, it can be hard to receive the transmission if you are not close to the equator or if the signal is being blocked by mountains, trees, or other natural and man made objects that get in the way.

While WAAS technology is not perfect, it is much better than what is currently available. As the system improves, the accuracy will improve, making WAAS one of the leading technology systems for GPS receivers. You can find out if a GPS system is WAAS compatible by looking on its package or searching online. Some examples of WAAS enabled GPS units include:

What are the odds I go into labor before augmentation?

I know nobody knows the answer I just want o know your opinion or hear a story you had.

Since about 6months I have been saying this baby is coming early, she is so low and I have felt her in my cervix for months. I have been having contractions since April 10th(today that is 13days) they are real contractions not braxton hicks. They got to the point one night where I was feeling good pressure and went in, I was at 2cm after the day before being 1cm. My mucus plug came out and I went to the doc again yesterday and am now 3cm. They say I am in just slow labor and if the baby does not come by my appointment Monday they will augment my labor, meaning give me pitocin to speed up contractions.

So what is it I have an appointment so will she decide to come or hold off to be forced out:) Just curious passing time LOL

when i was pregnant with my daughter, the first time my daughter checked to see how many cm dilated i was i was at 2 cm. the next time i was 2 1/2 cm. the time after that i was 3, then 3 1/2. my daughter came 2 weeks and 2 days early. i went from 5 cm to 10 cm in less than an hour, just because it starts out going slow doesn’t mean it will stay that way. i don’t know if you will go into labor before your augmentation, but either way congratulations and good luck!

Has anyone had plastic surgery at a reduced price?

I just want to know if anyone had plastic surgery using one of those "affordable plans" that some clinics and hospitals offer. It’s where recently plastic surgery residents or fellows offer their services before going private.

If so, tell me:

what you had done
how the doctors were and
if you’re happy with the results

Thanks! ^_^
Kwwboarder,

can you tell me what happened with your family member??

Hi , I had a full face lift on May 26,1999 and I paid $12,000 but being that I paid cash he only charges me 10,000. I went to three different doctors and the first two doctors I remember walking out of there offices and feeling not that confident in either of them, and when someone is going to do your face you want to feel 100% reassurance with that doctor. Then one night I was watching Howard Stern and Dr Sal Calabro was on his show and I liked him right away , so I made an appointment ,met him (New Jersey and Pennsylvania) and within 10mins I knew he was the one .
My God , it took 10 years off my life ,he did an excellent job, I was laid up for three weeks but it was worth every penny …and pain..

Before I went to any doctors I did about 100 hours of homework on the internet, I found that the SMAS facelift was the one that would last the longest, when it comes to your face you don’t jump in head first, you have to do your homework, one wrong move and you can end up looking like freak,,,,,,
.
And the consultation visit with the other doctors were $125.00 first doctor $50.00 for the second doctor and Dr Calabro was FREE, and at that time he had no idea if he would be the one to do my surgery, There’s no charge for his visit, Now you have to have plenty of confidence in yourself to offer free office visits..

After it’s done , swellings down and you have your make-up on it such a weird feeling looking at yourself in the mirror, it’s like you went 10 years back in time…What a great feeling…..

What Acne Scar Treatments Are Out There?

Acne can cause scars when not treated sufficient. Therefore you should always treat your acne to minimize the risk of acne scars. If you have severe acne you should consult your doctor or a dermatologist for treatment. You cannot treat acne scars if you still have acne problems. You first have to treat the acne, before you can treat the acne scars.

Acne scars can be found in different variations. The depth of the scar is important. Shallow scars are easier to treat then deep scars. The best acne scar treatment depends on the scars and on the person. Consult your doctor about the best treatment for you. Below is a list of common acne treatments.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels contain different types of acids that will remove the top layer of the damaged skin. The skin will usually turn red or swell for a few days. This treatment is only for people with mild scarring.

Dermabrasion treatment

Before the treatment the skin is numbed or frozen. After that the damaged skin is removed using a rotating wheel. The procedure will take up to an hour, but your skin will be reddish for at least two weeks. This treatment is best for shallow scars.

Laser resurfacing treatment

Damaged skin is removed using a laser, so new skin can form in its place. This treatment is best for shallow scars, but can cause change of skin tone for people with darker skin.

Punch Techniques

This is a treatment for pitted scars. The scar is cut open or out and is sometimes replaced with skin like hair transplantation. This is the best treatment for deep scars.

Subcision

By detaching the scar from the deep tissue the skin is leveled. For best results this treatment has to be repeated more than ones.

Augmentation

The scar is leveled to the surface by injecting collagen under the skin. The results will last for about half a year. Best thing is that there is hardly any recovery time needed from this treatment.

Usually one treatment will not be sufficient to remove all acne scars. Most of the time several or combined treatments are needed to get the best results.

My dental surgeon will be doing a bone augmentation before by dental implant.Just want to know how safe is it and what are the risk involved?
Is having the implant at the same time advisable? Also is this a day procedure and what type of anaeshesia is recommended. I have read in some thread that there could be complications with general. How long does this take? I will also have four teeth extracted. Is this commonly done - extraction; augmentation and dental implant in one go? Thank you.

It’s routine.
They take a chip of bone and graft it to your jaw bone. You can’t have the implant at the same time, as there is not enough bone there to support the implant. You have to wait a few months for the bone to fuse, then get the implant done.Your periodontist will talk you through (or should have). If in doubt, ask.

After having a baby, things just arn’t the way they used to be. Do you think its morally wrong to have the surgery to get back to how you were before?

No! And even add a little more if you want! lol…do what makes you happy. I have a 16 month old and am getting a breast augmentation before Christmas….I can’t wait! It will give me alittle bit more confidence and just make me feel better…nothing wrong with that. And trust me I have very VERY strong morals (VEGAN). hehe…just be happy!

What is the price of plastic surgery?

Depends on what you want done, where you’re doing it, etc… Apparently the price is going down, but it’s still an expense that you should really think twice about. If you’re sure it’s what you really want, check to see where you can get it done and give them a call. They might be able to give an estimate.
